Join Jane Rhodes author of “Mary Ann Shadd Cary: The Black Press and Protest in the 19th Century” and professor and department head, African American Studies, University of Illinois, Chicago. as she speaks on Shadd Cary, the first black woman in North America to edit and publish a newspaper, one of the first black female lawyers in the U.S. and an advocate for voting rights for women. This event is sponsored by 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse, and made possible with  grant from Humanities NY.
