Program Description

Event Details

Always wanted to try kayaking but don’t know how to get started?  ACA instructor, Don Urmston, will tell you how to get started, what gear you’ll need, where to go paddling, where to meet other paddlers and where to get instruction on your technique.  See and feel the difference in kayaks, paddles and other equipment with our hands-on presentation.  Special attention is given to kayak safety and choosing your first kayak.  Whether you just want to paddle occasionally, or you want to become an expert sea kayaker, this program will get you started.  Free to all.

Donald Urmston has been kayaking for 30 years. He enjoys all types of kayaking from quiet water to sea kayaking, and loves to share his passion for kayaking with newcomers to the sport. He holds ACA level 2 coastal touring certification, and level 3 skills certification. He works on the Hudson River teaching beginner
and intermediate paddlers, and guiding tours. His paddling trips include: Erie Canal, Cayuga-Seneca Canal, Oswego Canal, Champlain Canal, Hudson River (Albany to NYC), Circumnavigation of Manhattan, Circumnavigation of Mt. Desert Island (Maine) and several expedition camping trips in NY, Maine, & Florida.
