Join Wood Library for the return of our Hobart William Smith Seminar series via Zoom. We will have Professor Mark Deutschlander discussing "Birds in our Landscape: Tracking Spring Migration".  The return of spring brings longer days and warmer temperatures and, of course, the return of many bright, charismatic songbirds from their southern wintering grounds. Many of these birds travel from Central or South America to New York or even further north over a short three to four week, often precarious, journey.  What drives these migrations? How do birds find their way over thousands of miles? How do birds prepare for and accomplish these migrations?  And, how do scientists track these birds during migration? In this presentation, Prof. Deutschlander will focus on the innovative technologies used by scientists to track migrating birds, and the available Internet technologies that you can use to identify and keep track of and find songbirds in our region during any time of year. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the number of people exploring nature and, in particular, watching birds in their yards and neighborhoods. Whether you are just taking an interest in learning about birds or you have been birding for years, come learn about the recent advances in our understanding of migration and how you can connect with birds. Registration required for Zoom Code
