The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that more food waste reaches landfills than any other single material in our everyday trash. Composting your food waste is one of the easiest ways to have a positive environmental impact and has the potential to divert 20% or more of your everyday trash. This saves space in landfills and reduces emissions. Compost ultimately increases soil health, creating stronger healthier plants, reducing their susceptibility to disease, and reducing the need for pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
The City of Canandaigua, in partnership with Ontario County Department of Sustainability & Solid Waste Management and Wood Library are offering FREE backyard composting kits to residents upon completion of a one-hour educational course; September 14th at 6 p.m., Wood Library, Hamlin Room. This program is for City of Canandaigua residents only and geared toward beginner composters. One composter kit per household.
This course will teach you the ins and outs of home composting and you will leave the class with your own kit!
